Think Before You Drink – STOP-DWI Enforcement Campaigns Continues

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, a day to commemorate the death of St. Patrick himself, who was the patron saint of Ireland, but also to celebrate Irish heritage and culture. As people are out celebrating, law enforcement agencies throughout the state are on the lookout for drunk and impaired drivers through the STOP-DWI Enforcement campaign.

Motorists can expect to see a continued presence of both marked and unmarked police vehicles, as well as sobriety checkpoints on roadways. The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office says their High Visibility Enforcement Campaign will continue through tomorrow, March 18th. The campaign is to further reduce the dangers of drunk and impaired driving.

A free mobile app is available to help you have a safe plan on getting home if you do plan to drink. The app was created by the NYS Governors Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation called Have a Plan. The app provides information to locate/call taxi services, program a designated driver list, and also provide education on Blood Alcohol Content levels as well as the laws and penalties for DWI Laws. The Have a Plan app is available to download for free on both Apple and Android devices.
