The Kinks’ Dave Davies Mines ’70’s Vault For Upcoming Decade Collection

Music News

The Kinks’ Dave Davies has made another deep dive into his personal vaults for the new album Decade, chronicling his unreleased music recorded between 1971 and 1979. The album will be released on October 12th and serves as the followup to 2011’s Hidden Treasures collection, which compiled his unreleased ’60s tracks. Davies said of the new collection of ’70s music: “I am so pleased that after all this time these tracks are being released to see the light of day. These songs have been silently nagging at me to be recognized all these years. At last I can proudly present this album Decade to the world. I do hope you all enjoy the music.”

He went on to explain how and why these songs never found a proper home until now: “We were busy, and we were touring, the Kinks were very vibrant that whole period of time. It wasn’t really until the end of the ’70s that I started to really take my writing seriously. I should have done it anyway — because what’s ‘serious’ and ‘not serious? Just get stuff out, y’know?”

Dave Davies, who wrapped a string of U.S. dates back in the spring, told us that the ethos that drove the Kinks’ best work now informs his own live shows: “Me and Ray have always tried to keep integrity into the music over the years and all the albums, and I’d like to keep the honesty in the live shows, as well. ‘Cause people pick up on it, y’know, and trying to uplift people and make ’em laugh and make ’em happy and inspire them.”
