John Harrison: [00:00:00] Good morning everyone. Welcome to another edition of Happening in Homer. It’s John Harrison in the Cayuga Health System sponsored studios. And joining me today is Andrew Pierce. Andrew, thanks so much for joining.

Andrew Pierce: Thanks for having me, John. Always a pleasure.

John Harrison: Yeah, always great having you in the studio and talking about some really cool events coming up here in, Homer.

’cause Well, it’s what’s happening in Homer. Yeah. We’ve got the, the Halloween parade coming up and an October Fest celebration. You wanna talk a little bit about the Halloween parade?

Andrew Pierce: Yeah, it’s a great time of year. Saturday, October 25th. It’s our annual Halloween parade. We’re asking, families to meet at the village hall at 4 45.

We’ll do the staging area. We’ll have our judges walking around, and then the parade kicks off right down the middle of Main Street at five 15. Now we head to the Halloween Kid Zone on the basketball courts where there’ll be costume judging, bounce houses on the courts, and some some treats for everyone.

John Harrison: Alright. Can’t beat that. It’s nice, simple, family fun. And, the parade’s gonna be a real great time. So yeah, so that’s, that’s a real cool, just fun Halloween experience for, for the kids [00:01:00] and the family alike. Any other, details, any other, things to look forward to with the, with the parade,

Andrew Pierce: the parade is always, a great event.

We, we get everybody dressed up. It’s a lot of fun. I’ll be leading the parade playing the Halloween marching music, and, people are welcome to line the streets. Obviously, some families walk together, but if you just want to come down and, and sit and watch the kids walk by and as we get to the back, behind the fire department, there’s a lot going on.

There’ll be some music and decorations and just a great atmosphere for everybody.

John Harrison: Awesome. Yeah. Can’t wait. That’s gonna be a lot of fun. You said that was, coming up this weekend, right? The 26th,

Andrew Pierce: Saturday, October 25th.

John Harrison: 25th, got it. Yeah. Yeah. Saturday, October 25th. And just remind us one last time, what time we’re kicking off.

Andrew Pierce: So we ask everyone to get there around 4 45 for the staging area. We’ll get the kids lined up by ages, give us a chance for the judges to walk around. And then at five 15 sharp, we head right down the, the middle of Main Street with a, police escort and the fire trucks will have it all, marked off for [00:02:00] safety.

John Harrison: Alright, awesome. And, you know, it’s, it’s, Halloween usually takes over the whole month of October, but October Fest is also another, fun celebration we’re doing here in Homer. Wanna talk a little bit about October Fest celebrations coming up.

Andrew Pierce: So we actually do that on the same night, October 25th.

We added it last year. This year it’s gonna be bigger and better. We’ve got Homer Hops coming with some craft beers. They’ll have the beer trailer there. The American Legion is gonna be cooking in the, community building, beer brats, and, probably some more things to go with that. And this year we have an actual polka band coming in.

The steam boiler works. Wow. Are gonna be coming in to play some Polka Bavarian dance music. I hear one of their best is the, the chicken dance. So hopefully we’ll get all the, the friends and families out there. That goes from five to 8:00 PM that’s at the Homer Community Building on Saturday, October 25th.

John Harrison: All right, that’s perfect. And yeah, folks, you can take part in the, the Halloween parade and then head straight on into October Fest celebrations, Homer Hop’s gonna be there. [00:03:00] That’s, that’s huge. And the, the poker band, that’s always so much fun. And, especially getting that this year, that’s, that’s gonna be really great.

And just a. Awesome experience for the kids too. It’s, it’s a nice family celebration.

Andrew Pierce: Yeah. That’s what we’re looking for. A few hours. Family fun. Get together, you know, it’s been great weather. Hopefully you’ll be blessed. Great weather, for this event and it’ll, be something special for everybody.

John Harrison: Yeah, of course.

Well Andrew, it’s starting to run a little short on time. Any other last minute details? Last minute things you wanna mention, places where people can go to find things, anything like that?
