Matt Brooks: [00:00:00] Matt Brooks here on X101, Always Classic in with Jonah Reardon, vice president of the Broome County Agricultural Society Board of Directors. Now, the Broome County Fair is coming to the Broome County Fairgrounds in Whitney Point, July 22nd through the 27th, and well this year, they’re also celebrating their 150th year.
First off, Jonah, thank you for joining me today.
Jonah Reardon: Thank you, Matt. Glad to be here.
Matt Brooks: Well. First off, how does it feel for the fair to reach 150 years?
Jonah Reardon: So we are thrilled to be able to celebrate 150 years, uh, and be a staple within our community for so long. Um, the Broome County Fair has been a momentous event for so many people within Whitney Point in Northern Broome County and surrounding areas, that to be able to continue to provide this year after year. It’s just something that we really cherish.
Matt Brooks: It’s, it’s amazing, ’cause if you think about it, I mean this fair has been around like longer than the Great Depression. It is. It is that, uh, long going. Uh, Speaking [00:01:00] of this year’s fair in particular though, Jonah, what’s planned and is there actually anything special to commemorate at the, uh, the milestone?
Jonah Reardon: Yeah, so being the 150th, we’ve really been, uh, working with our community to try to involve them with so much of what we’re doing. We are trying to make this year’s fair, bigger and better than ever. We have more free entertainment than we’ve ever had. Uh, we’re having live music throughout the week.
And we are bringing in some community members to help with some historical aspects. Uh, we are going to have a historical library, um, and somewhat of a museum for folks to be able to look through to see what has changed since 1871, where we had our first fair.
Matt Brooks: Wow. And it’s, it is gonna, I mean, you have plenty of time to, I mean, find time to get to Whitney Point ’cause it is a multi-day festival.
It’s July 22nd through the 27th and it’s gonna be quite busy in Whitney Point with, with the fair. Anything people should know before heading to Whitney Point. Any go over here to park or any traffic, [00:02:00] uh, changes.
Jonah Reardon: So we just encourage people to be mindful of traffic. Sometimes things can get backed up.
Plan plenty of time to get into the fair. Parking is available right on the fairgrounds and at the neighboring schools. And all information about online ticket sales or right on our website. If you want to try to bypass that line and, and get through pretty quickly, go ahead and buy your tickets in advance.
Matt Brooks: Oh, that’s great. Online and we are running outta time. You’re speaking about a website. I mean, for ticket sales and from just more information about the Broome County Fair. Where should people go?
Jonah Reardon: BroomeCountyFairNY.com.
Matt Brooks: Oh, that’s perfect. You probably were the first ones to get there since, uh, for that website since you’ve been around for the longest.
Jonah Reardon: Yep.
Matt Brooks: Uh, I gotta thank you again, Jonah, for joining me today, talking about the Broom County Fair, celebrating its 150th year, July 22nd through the July 27th at the Broome County Fairgrounds. Thank you again for joining me.
Jonah Reardon: Thank you, Matt.
Matt Brooks: This is Matt Brooks on X101. Always Classic.
