UPDATE: Troopers Identify Teen who Fell Through Ice in Harford

State Police have identified the 14-year-old boy who died after falling through ice in the town of Harford on Saturday as John T. Robertson.

The boy was reportedly autistic and his father told that he wandered outside without the family noticing before falling into Owego Creek, managing to pull himself ashore but collapsing as soon as he did so.

Emergency crews responded just past 4:30 pm and located Robertson just outside the water, rushing him to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, where he later succumbed to a case of hypothermia.

State police say a 14-year-old is dead after falling through the ice on a creek near Route 200 in Harford on Saturday (February 15).

Troopers responded just after 4:35 p.m., along with members of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department, Dryden Fire and EMS and Harford Fire.

Those first to the scene located the 14-year-old just outside of the water, who was rushed by ambulance to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and later succumbed to injuries.

No more details are available at this time.

NYSP Troop “C” Commander Major Brian Shortall says the investigation is continuing.
