TC3 Awarded $50K For Adult Learner Programs – One of 22 Community Colleges in State to Receive Funding

Yesterday morning, New York Governor Hochul announced $1.1 million dollars in funding for 22 community colleges throughout the state to support adult learners. Funding will go towards a wide-range of plans that are designed to assist more adults to learn access to transformational educational opportunities. The Governor says this funding builds on her plan to offer free community college for students aged 25-55 who pursue degrees in high demand fields.

“For millions of New Yorkers, community college can be the path to upward mobility and economic security, opening the door to a wide array of workforce opportunities,” Governor Hochul said. “Working with SUNY, we are tackling the barriers that stand in the way of New Yorkers accessing these potentially transformational educational pathways. The Adult Learner Leadership Initiative builds on our commitment to empowering people in every corner of the state to participate in generational economic opportunities.”

Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) was awarded $50,000 for marketing and recruitment targeted to specific adult learner populations. Funds will also go towards an expanded use of credit for prior learning and creating a sense of belonging for adult learners at the school.

According to the Governor’s Office, more than one in four SUNY community college students are 25 years or older, and nearly two-thirds attend school part time.
