TC3 Announces Financial Support Towards Internships

Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) has announced the school has received $116,000 dollars directed to support students in unpaid or low-paid internships over the next three years. The funding is expected to help students who are looking to expand their learning experience through an internship with a local employer.

TC3 says the funding comes from a workforce development investment by the state which was announced sometime in 2022. That announcement created the Office of Strategic Workforce Development. The office works with SUNY in expanding internship opportunities for their students.

“Internships and applied learning opportunities are integral to student career exploration and finding meaningful employment in fields of interest,” said Dara Riegel, TC3’s Assistant Director for Employer Relations and Experiential Learning.

Students interested in the program may apply for up to $3,500 while participating in unpaid or low-paid internships. TC3 says the money may be used to cover expenses that are associated with the internship including transportation, attire, and tuition. It may also help off-set the cost of living including rent, child care, and groceries.
