Syracuse Man Arrested After Trying to Stop Vehicle From Being Towed During Traffic Stop – Had no Rear License Plate & Suspended License
A Syracuse man has been charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration, a Misdemeanor, during a traffic stop on I81 in the Town of Cortlandville. State Police tell X101 News around 7:30pm on Saturday, February 22nd, a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2016 Ford Explorer near mile marker 48 after the Trooper observed it with no rear license plate.
During the traffic stop and speaking with the driver, 40 year old Ahmed Y. Osman of Syracuse, State Police discovered Osman also had a suspended license and could not be operating the vehicle. Osman was then informed that because of the lack of a license plate for the vehicle and suspended license, the vehicle will be towed.
The escalation began when a tow truck operator arrived at the traffic stop to tow the vehicle. State Police say Osman had gotten out of the vehicle and then put himself between the Explorer and the tow truck, preventing the car from being towed.
Osman then began to argue with both the tow truck operator and the Trooper. State Police ordered Osman numerous times to give his car keys to the tow truck operator, but Osman refused.
State Police eventually arrested Osman for the charge mentioned above. He was taken to SP Homer where he was processed and given appearance tickets for Cortlandville Town Court. Osman is due in court next month.
