The Virgil man accused of driving drunk and killing one of his three young daughters has hired a well-known Syracuse defense attorney to represent him.
29-year-old Dan Haynes of West State Road, Virgil appeared in Cortlandville Court Monday. During the hearing, it was announced that Haynes has replaced his original attorney Randolf Kruman with Syracuse defense lawyer Emil Rossi.
Rossi has handled several high profile cases in the region. Locally he represented convicted killer Randy Thibeault who was found guilty in the death of his wife Wendy Thibeault back in 2009.
Haynes is facing 22 charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, multiple counts of reckless endangerment and aggravated D-W-I.
Haynes has waived his right to a felony hearing in Town Court and the case will now proceed to the County Court where a judge may consider setting bail on the felony charges.
Haynes who has a history of driving drunk is accused of driving drunk with his three daughters. Witnesses say he reached speeds of 100 MPH as he traveled down West State Rd. He blew through a stop sign and hit a utility pole. None of the five passengers including the children were wearing seat belts.
