One person is dead after a stabbing in the city last night.
CPD officers were called to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center just past 11 pm.
A male victim — 28-year-old David O. Sears-Lopez, of Evergreen Street — had been brought to the ER with a serious wound to his chest.
He was attacked in front of a residence on Maple Avenue during an argument with 56-year-old Harold John Young, of McKeesport, PA.
As police interviewed one witness at the hospital, another called into the 911 center and described seeing the incident firsthand.
Members of Young’s family also took part in the assault. Sears-Lopez was apparently dating one of his adult children, according to Lt. Michael Strangeway.
The dispute turned physical briefly before the fatal stabbing occurred.
Sears-Lopez was airlifted from GCMC to Upstate Medical center in Syracuse for emergency surgery, but attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.
Young is charged with:
- Murder in the Second Degree (A-I Felony)
- Criminal Possession of a weapon in the third degree (F)
Additionally, a records search revealed an active warrant from 2018 for Young, when he was found in possession of materials used to make methamphetamine.
He was arraigned and remanded to the CCJ without bail, scheduled to appear in city court on Monday morning (November 8).
