SUNY Cortland to Build 220-Bed Residence Hall, Replacing West Campus Apartments
SUNY Cortland looks to break ground on a new residence hall this summer. The university told X101 News the tentative start date will be sometime this August with construction going through May of 2028. The new building looks to have an opening date for students by the Fall semester of 2028.
The new residence hall, the first new housing on campus since the completion of Dragon Hall back in 2013, will be located at the intersection of Pashley and Folmer Drives, near the Tompkins Street entrance. The new building will have around 220 beds in apartment-style rooms and be 4-stories tall. It will also feature a self-serve automated market where students may purchase grab-and-go food and beverages along with a small grocery selection.

SUNY Cortland says the new building will replace the West Campus Apartments on Route 281. The building will feature similar style housing as the current West Campus Apartments. Following the opening of the new residence hall, the West Campus Apartments will be utilized as backup housing when residential renovations are taking place on the main campus.
The university has previously told X101 News the estimated cost for the new residence hall is around $36 million and said they plan to use low interest state-issued bonds to cover the construction costs that will be repaid over time through student room fees.
