Eight SUNY Cortland students interested in healthcare careers are benefitting from an internship experience at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center’s Emergency Department during the spring semester.
Interns get the chance to provide help to nursing staff with non-clinical tasks like sharing conversations with visitors and bringing blankets to patients. The opportunity not only provides a chance for the students to learn about patient care, but also aids Guthrie Cortland during a nationwide hospital staff shortage.
Officials say that in addition to the internship providing college credits, the experience can often help students decide if emergency room work is something they want to do as a career.
