Tompkins County Sheriff’s say a 26-year-old woman who was enrolled at SUNY Cortland has died, after a one-car accident early yesterday (May 15) morning on Livermore Road in Dryden.

Deputies say it was just before 4:00 a.m. when a Kia Soul traveling northbound went off the east shoulder and struck a tree.

Both the driver and passenger were immediately transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

The passenger was identified as 26-year-old Glennys Alandra Cordero, of the Bronx, and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Cordero was a history major in the graphic design and digital media program and also a recent graduate of Tompkins Cortland Community College.

The driver is also a SUNY Cortland student but has not been named. They did sustain minor, non life-threatening injuries.

SUNY Cortland President Erik Bitterbaum says staff in the counseling and wellness services departments are available to offer support for members of the campus community.

A vigil will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. on the steps of Corey Union.
