SUNY Cortland Football, Lacrosse Field Renamed After $1 Million Gift

The field that hosts football and lacrosse at SUNY Cortland will soon be getting a new name following a $1 million gift from Cortland alum Chris Grady.

Twenty years after the stadium’s Red Field first opened, it will now be renamed James J. Grady Field at SUNY Cortland. That’s in honor of Chris Grady’s father who played quarterback for the Red Dragons. The gift will also establish the Christopher J. Grady Scholarship and the Terry Bedell Grady Scholarship, named after Grady and his wife.

A formal renaming ceremony for the stadium won’t take place until next season, when the Red Dragons football squad faces Utica College October 7th, 2023. Grady says he chose to give back to SUNY Cortland not just because of his family’s history, but also because he views SUNY Cortland as the place that gave him experiences that shaped his future.
