An advisory from the National Weather Service runs from 10am-10pm, warning of gusts up to 45 mph that could blow around unsecured objects.
Residents in the following counties are affected:
Cortland; Tompkins; Onondaga; Southern Cayuga; Madison; Seneca; Steuben; Schuyler; Oneida; Yates
The strongest winds will be across the higher terrain during the afternoon, with a cold front between 4 and 7 PM.
Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result, according to NWS officials.
Motorists in the area should use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.
Additionally, neighbors should ensure any outdoor objects are secured.
Utilities like NYSEG say they are preparing response teams preemptively.
