Strong Attendance For New Year’s First Light Celebration; Cold Start For The First Monday Of Year

Local News

Attendance was strong with a great community vibe for First Light’s 15th anniversary.

Fire magic performers helped to light up the streets and fireworks lit up the sky as Cortland rang in the New Year.

The Cortland Downtown Partnership’s Promotions Committee planned the event with help from McNeil and Company picking up the $5,000 tab for the fireworks display.

Jane Witty from the Cortland Downtown Partnership said other donations helped to cover the $7,000 total cost.

Today is coldest day for central New York since last February.

The wind chill this afternoon will be around -5 to -10°.

The cold weather won’t last too long. Quiet and milder weather mid-week.
