Music News

Tonight (September 14th), Sting and Shaggy kick off the North American leg of their joint “44/876 Tour” at Jacksonville, Florida’s Daily’s Place. The pair, who has already brought the show to Europe over the summer, features tracks from their critically acclaimed debut collaboration, along with Shaggy favorites and Sting’s solo and Police classics.

Among the Police numbers tackled in the show are “Spirits In The Material World,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” “Message In A Bottle,” “Walking On The Moon, ” “So Lonely,” “Roxanne,” and “Every Breath You Take.” Sting favorites included “If You Love Somebody (Set Them Free),” “Fields Of Gold,” “Desert Rose,” “Englishman In New York,” and “Love Is The Seventh Wave” among others. One of the highlights in the show is the main-set closing number from Shaggy — his 2000 smash, “It Wasn’t Me.”

The trek features joined a combined band including Sting’s musicians Dominic Miller on guitar, Josh Freese on drums and Rufus Miller on guitar as well as Shaggy’s players Melissa Musique and Gene Noble on backing vocals, with Kevon Webster on keyboards. Following the 21 North American dates, Sting and Shaggy will bring the tour to South America and Eastern Europe.

Prior to hitting the road in Europe, we asked Sting what fans could expect musically from his upcoming joint gigs with Shaggy: “In a kind of spontaneous way, it will be very integrated. It’s not as if Shaggy is going to do a set or I’m going to do a separate set. We’ll be doing some of Shaggy’s big hits and some of mine and some of the new material — but we will integrate it as much as possible. My band and I, we like to improvise, we like to throw it in the mix and see what happens.”
