That announcement was made at the Trucking Association of New York’s Truck Safety and Education Symposium and helped raise awareness for National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

You can now expect to see and hear new PSA’s on billboards, television, and radio stations statewide in the coming weeks.

State and local police are also taking part in an ongoing enforcement campaign focused on distracted driving, which will continue running today (April 11) through this Monday, the 15th.

Statistics show these campaigns may be working. According to research from the University at Albany, the number of fatal passenger vehicle crashes where driver inattention or distraction was a reported factor in NY dropped from 144 crashes in 2017 to 108 crashes in 2018.

That number improved for large trucks as well.
