State’s First-Ever Inflation Reduction Checks to be Mailed This Fall

It is now official, New York State will be sending out up to $400 to 8.2 million residents in the state as part of the first-ever inflation refund checks. The initiative was pushed by Governor Kathy Hochul to put money back in the pockets of New Yorkers. According to the Governor, there is no application required or sign-ups to receive a check. All checks will be mailed directly to eligible New Yorkers starting this October through November.

“Starting in October, over 8 million New Yorkers will get an inflation refund because it’s simple — this is your money and we’re putting it back in your pockets,” Governor Hochul said.

To be eligible for an inflation refund check, you must’ve filed your 2023 taxes, filed form IT-201, reported an income within the qualifying thresholds (found below), and were not claimed as a dependent on another person’s tax return.

Joint tax filers with income up to $150,000 will receive a $400 check.

Joint tax filers with income over $150,000 but no greater than $300,000 will receive a $300 check.

Single tax filers with income up to $75,000 will receive a $200 check.

Single tax filers with incomes over $75,000 but no greater than $150,000 will receive a $150 check.

The Governor’s Office added there are no age restrictions to be eligible for the refund. For the Central New York Region, 321,000 people will receive a refund check.
