Sales tax collections in New York State have increased by 14.1% for the month of October when compared to October 2021. Collections overall totaled $1.75 billion dollars, about $217 million dollars up from last year.

“October’s sales tax collections saw the strongest monthly year-over-year growth since May, despite the participation of many counties in the gas tax holiday,” New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said. “However, as inflation continues to increase costs for many municipalities, it is important that local officials recognize that changing economic conditions may impede future collections.”

For Cortland County, sales tax revenue grew by 10.2% in the month of October compared October of 2021. The county took in $2.9 million dollars in sales tax revenue, up $300k from October last year.

Year to date revenue for Cortland County is at $32.1 million dollars, or an increase of 3.6%.
