The New York State Department of Labor released some preliminary local area unemployment rates yesterday for the month of October.
Cortland County came in 3.6%, which is less than the statewide average of 4.0%.
Tompkins County’s unemployment rate was among the lowest in the state at 3.0%, tied with Seneca and Yates Counties and just behind Columbia County (2.7%) and Saratoga County (2.9%).

All 62 counties in New York recorded lower unemployment rates compared to last October (2017).
The State’s private sector job count has also increased by more than 122,000 workers in that time.
