Mary Dykeman of Family Counseling Services is getting state recognition for her work educating youth on sexual health.
Dykeman received the State Health Commissioner’s Special Recognition Award.
Many know Dykeman as “The Sex Lady.”
She’s been educating young people for 29 years first at the county health department, and more recently as a Prevention Specialist on the Cortland Prevention Resources team.
One of her original creations, “Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll” is a trivia night sponsored by a local pub in which teams sign up to compete and answer questions about sex, drugs and rock & roll.
Dykeman is known for her ability to engage the crowd as she stands on a chair calling out the questions.
