State Police warn residents of latest email scam

Local News

State Police are warning residents about several reported email scams that attempt to use scare tactics and fabricated blackmail to get you to hand them your money.

The scammer demands the recipient pay a Bitcoin ransom to prevent alleged sexually explicit videos of themselves from being sent to each of their email and social media contacts.

Troopers say these emails are fake and urge the community not to send any money, but rather to ignore the email and change your password immediately.

Don’t open any links that you’re not familiar with.

Anyone who may have lost money in this type of scam should contact State Police or local law enforcement.
