State Police Report 33% Increase in Speeding, 44% Increase in Move-Over Violations During This Year’s Speed Week
The New York State Police say the recent results from their speed week, which took place from August 12th through the 18th, show an increase in speeding, violators of the states Move-Over Law, and an overall increase in tickets issued to motorists.
The campaign targeted speeding drivers and had a 33% increase in tickets issued at 13,534. Last year, State Police issued 10,153 speeding tickets. Another concerning increase were violators of New York State’s Move-Over Law; the law requires all motorists to move-over for any vehicle pulled over on the shoulder of a highway no matter if it’s an emergency vehicle or not. In total, 550 tickets were issued to motorists violating the Move-Over Law, a 41% increase from last year.
The New York State Police say speeding remains to be a leading cause of fatalities throughout the state and ask all motorists to slow down and obey the speed limit.
