Update 9/13 2:12pm:
The New York State Police say the suspect in Tuesday’s armed robbery at Cortland Carpet Outlet on Route 281 in the Town of Cortlandville is still on the loose.
State Police responded to an armed robbery at the store where an armed masked man entered the place of business. The suspect then forced a female worker towards a safe located in an office of the business and demanded she open it, holding the knife against her.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot before police arrived. The female worker suffered lacerations to her hands and was transported to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.
The suspect in the case was described as a skinny black male, wearing a face covering and a tan/beige sweatshirt and jeans. State Police say a suspect matching the description was detained and was cooperative with police before it was determined they were uninvolved in the robbery.
State Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or was in the area at the time of the robbery to call at 607-561-7400. State Police also ask anyone with surveillance systems to check them to see if it shows the suspect (pictured below) between 9:30am and 10:30am.
Update 9/12 11:15am: New York State Police say an alleged suspect is in custody and there is no threat to the public.
A little after 10 in the morning on Tuesday, September 12th, a call came in to 9-1-1 dispatch of an armed robbery that had occurred at 4030 Route 281 (Cortland Floor Covering).
Area law enforcement responded quickly to the scene to find a worker of the business shoved into a closet with injuries to her hand and head.
Reports indicate the suspect described as a black male with sunglasses, wearing an orange hoodie, white sneakers, and black pants, a mask covering his face, wearing rubber gloves and armed with a knife. The suspect was able to take off on foot before law enforcement arrived reportedly headed towards the City of Cortland.
Reports also indicated that the suspect threatened the victim to open the safe to the business. It is unknown at this time if the suspect was able to get the safe open.
