New York State Police out of Ithaca responded last Wednesday evening to a 911 call of a car that had struck a pedestrian on Peru Road in the Town of Groton.
The investigation revealed that Robert J. Pless, 39, of Groton, was walking southbound in the middle of the northbound lane on Peru Road for an unknown reason. As he was walking in the lane he was struck by a 2004 Mazda RX 8 that was being driven by Paul E. Miller, 31, of Freeville.
According to a press release from State Police, Miller was driving northbound and was unable to avoid striking Pless.
No criminal charges are being pursued against Miller.
Pless sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse, where he is listed in critical condition.
