New York State Police based out of the Whitney Point State Police Barracks will have three upcoming car seat checks in Whitney Point with two taking place at the Broome County Fairgrounds.
Happening today from 4 to 7pm at 2612 Liberty Street in Whitney Point will be the first free car seat check. State Police say those who plan to bring their vehicle for the car seat check can expect the following:
Checking to make sure the child is fitted in the correct type of seat.
Check that the child seat is installed correctly.
Check that the child is properly secured in the car seat.
Check the expiration and registration of the car seat.
Be provided with hands-on experience.
Any questions you may have will be answered as well. All children must be retrained in an appropriate child restraint system while in a motor vehicle until they reach their 8th birthday, State Police say. Children under 2 years of age must be in a rear-facing car seat.
The other two dates and times will be during the Broome Count Fair. The first will be on Wednesday, July 23rd from 4-7pm and then Thursday, July 24th from 4-7pm. There is no charge to have your car seat checked by State Police.
