State Police Enforce Move-Over Law on I81 in Preble
On Wednesday, November 20th, State Police Troop C Traffic Incident Management Unit joined with members of the New York State Department of Transportation on I81 in the Town of Preble as part of Crash Responder Safety Week. Troopers were on scene to enforce motorists Move-Over for stopped vehicles on the highway.
The enforcement of the state’s Move-Over law comes after several crashes on highways within the state including one that killed a NY Thruway worker in Western New York. Members of the NYSDOT were out on I81 fixing delineators. DOT trucks had their amber flashing lights on along the shoulder of the highway.
“The Move Over Law requires all drivers to slow down and move over (if safe to do so) when approaching ALL stopped vehicles. That includes law enforcement officers, emergency responders, construction and maintenance crews, tow truck operators and anyone working along the roadway.”
State Police said in a release.
State Police tell X101 News 6 tickets were issued for Move-Over violations in the span of three hours time.
