State Health Commissioner Howard Zuckerman joined local officials at the Homer Senior Center yesterday to recognize the importance of local aging services and also remind seniors about taking steps to keep themselves healthy.
Zuckerman says this year flu vaccine is expected to be a good match for the strain of flu that will make its rounds.
Zuckerman also used the opportunity to promote the benefits of preventative medicine like vaccinations.
Recently, a growing movement of parents are rejecting shots for their kids citing concerns that they are not healthful. Some states are passing laws requiring vaccinations, New York has revised rules as well.
The CDC recommends flu shots for everyone 6 months or older. Vaccination is especially important for people with weak immune system and risk of complications from the flu.
