State DOT to Install Another Flashing Crosswalk Sign on Tompkins

Another safety improvement for a busy crosswalk will happen in the near future. The New York Department of Transportation plans to install a crosswalk warning system at the crosswalk near the Tompkins and Folmer Drive in the City of Cortland.

The work by the DOT will include two signposts with crosswalk warning lights, which will include a button for pedestrians to press that will flash yellow warning lights to motorists, alerting them of a pedestrian crossing. The crosswalk is expected to be similar to that of the two further east on Tompkins Street near Owego Street and Prospect Terrace.

The installation news by the DOT was part of an effort by Council Member Pat Lane, Public Works Superintendent, Nic Dovi, and Mayor Steve.
