The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that the closure of the Route 281 bridge over I81 slated this weekend, has been delayed due to weather conditions.
The DOT says the closure will now take place next Friday, October 20th at 7pm through 6am Monday, October 23rd. The closure is needed to facilitate bridge repairs.
Detour signs will be in place for motorists. For those traveling southbound on Route 281, the DOT says to take I81 north to Tully (Exit 14) and proceed to I81 Southbound until the Preble exit (Exit 13).
Traffic headed northbound in Route 281 who would require going over the bridge must get on I81 North in Homer (Exit 12). Motorists will then use the Preble exit (Exit 13) to continue north on Route 281.
The DOT says construction work will be weather permitting and to exercise increased caution when traveling through a work zone.
