The State Department of Agriculture has announced applications are open for the launch of their $800,000 New York State Urban Farms and Community Gardens Grant Program.
The endeavor is meant to support community growing spaces. It also recognizes the impact of these grows on local food resiliency and food security for New York residents. Successful projects will be geared toward the development and enhancement of urban farms as well as school and community gardens across the state.
Funding from the Grant Program will help offset expenses associated with projects focused on food production, safety and distribution, and can also be used to fund other operating expenses like worker wages, contractual fees and equipment.
