A new report from the state comptroller’s office says that New York is sending more money to our nation’s capital than it gets in return.
The report shows that New York sent an estimated $24.1 billion more in tax payments to Washington than it got back in federal spending in federal fiscal year 2017.
That means our state got back 90 cents for every dollar it sent.
Most states received more than they paid and the average return for all states was $1.19 per tax dollar sent to Washington.
Only New Jersey, Massachusetts and Connecticut fared worse than New York’s 90 cent mark.
