State Announces Upcoming Temporary EBT Outage For This Sunday – Outage Part of System Updates


The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance is reminding Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cardholders that their benefits will be temporarily unavailable during a system change this Sunday, May 19th from 12:01 am to about 11 in the morning.

A new contractor is being implemented, the state says to the reason why a temporary outage will occur. It is noted the outage could be either longer or shorter than the estimated time mentioned above.

“Millions of New Yorkers depend on these vital benefits to help support their families, and OTDA is working to expedite the EBT system change to minimize the impact on affected recipients,” said OTDA Acting Commissioner Barbara C. Guinn. “I urge all EBT cardholders to do their shopping and make cash withdrawals ahead of time, so they will not be inconvenienced during this brief switch over.”

EBT cardholders may check the status of the outage by visiting OTDA.NY.GOV or by calling the EBT customer service helpline at 1-888-328-6399 on Sunday.

No access to will be available for EBT cardholders, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance benefits. This includes access for food and cash purchases or cash withdrawals, as well as access to the EBT toll-free customer service helpline (the number above is not the same number), mobile app, and client portal.

After the transition is complete, cardholders will be able to use their same EBT card and PIN. A new card will not be needed.
