City police are investigating a stabbing that occurred around 10:00 this morning outside the Cortland County Office Building.
Witnesses reported seeing 24-year-old Edward Widger, of Port Watson Street, use a knife to slash the arm of a male victim as he rode past him on a bicycle.
Lt. Michael Strangeway said Widger and the victim are acquainted with one another – he may currently be dating one of Widger’s ex-girlfriends.
City police were on-scene quickly and located Widger still in possession of the knife.
He was taken into custody and charged with two felonies for 2nd-degree assault and 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The victim was rushed to GCMC and treated for a 5-7 inch long, non-life threatening cut on his arm.
Widger is currently held at CPD awaiting arraignment.
