St. Patrick’s Day STOP-DWI Campaign Begins Today – Continues Through Tuesday
Law enforcement agencies throughout the state, including the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign for St. Patrick’s Day weekend and the day itself on Monday, March 17th.
During the STOP-DWI campaign, motorists will see an increase in both marked and unmarked law enforcement vehicles cracking down on drunk, impaired, and distracted drivers. Motorists can also expect to see sobriety checkpoints set up on certain roads.
A free mobile app is available to help you have a safe plan on getting home if you do plan to drink. The app was created by the NYS Governors Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation called Have a Plan. The app provides information to locate/call taxi services, program a designated driver list, and also provide education on Blood Alcohol Content levels as well as the laws and penalties for DWI Laws.
The app also can let you report a suspected impaired driver. The Have a Plan app is available to download for free on both Apple and Android devices.
