Speeding & Unsafe Lane Change Determined to be Cause of Three-Vehicle Crash on I81 in Homer

State Police say an investigation determined a speeding vehicle and an unsafe lane change caused a three vehicle crash around 4:50 Sunday afternoon near mile-marker 55.9 in Homer.

Police say a 2012 Honda Accord being driven by 35 year old Mahmudul Hasan of Syracuse, was driving north at an unsafe speed when he passed a Chevy Malibu in the right lane. Hasan would then move from the right lane to the left lane unsafely, police say, and then struck the Malibu causing it to hit the guiderail.

After striking the Malibu, Hasan would then overcorrect his vehicle and then strike a Subaru CrossTrek. The crash caused significant traffic delays on I81 for about an hour. Both Homer Fire and Tully Ambulance responded to the scene.

A one-year-old passenger in the Honda was taken to Upstate University Hospital. Both Hasan and a 31-year-old female passenger did not report any injuries.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu reported pain on scene, but was not transported. No injuries were reported by the driver and an occupant in the Subaru.

Troopers cited Hasan as a result of the crash.
