Speeding Tractor-Trailer Jackknifes on I-81 Near McGraw Early Tuesday

A tractor-trailer traveling southbound on I-81 jackknifed in snowy conditions early Tuesday, blocking both southbound lanes for several hours, according to State Police.

Troopers say the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. near mile marker 49.9, south of Exit 50 (Polkville/McGraw), when the driver failed to maintain his lane while traveling too fast on a snow-covered roadway. The tractor-trailer went off the road, struck a guardrail, and jackknifed, coming to rest facing north in the southbound lanes.

The driver, 26-year-old Vivek Kumar of Elmont, New York, was not injured. I-81 South was closed until about 6 a.m. Police issued traffic citations as a result of the crash.
