The Solon Town Board is holding a public hearing on Thursday night at 7 o’clock at the Town Hall to solicit resident’s input on two proposed fire contracts.
The Solon Town Board is weighing whether or not to renew is a contract for fire protection with the Village of McGraw Fire Department or instead contract with the Cortlandville Fire Department.
The McGraw Fire Department has provided fire protection to the town since the 1940’s. They are proposing a five-year contract at a total cost of nearly $248 thousand dollars. The agreement has a nearly $14 hundred dollar annual escalator built in.
The Cortlandville Fire District is proposing a 3-year contract valued at $93 thousand dollars. It has a $1 thousand dollar annual escalator built in.
One of the other differences is that the McGraw contract requires the town to carry a one million dollar insurance policy while the Cortlandville contract would provide the liability coverage.
Town leaders say they are looking for community input as part of the decision-making process.
