Social media threat mentioning Homer school deemed non-credible

A threatening message on social media that mentions “Homer school six through eighth grade” has been deemed non-credible.

Superintendent Tom Turck responded to the situation on Parent Square, an online bulletin for families in the district.

“As you know, Homer Schools takes student and staff safety very seriously and will continue to monitor any and all circumstances that arise,” said Turck.

Village police were made aware of the post, then immediately worked with other agencies to determine its source.

It was apparently linked with a string of similar threats circulating nationwide.

These first surfaced on Sunday, but did not identify Homer until recently.
