Snow Has Arrived; Make Sure Your Car is Prepared

The snow has finally arrived in Central New York and with more expected tonight and into tomorrow. The best way to make sure your vehicle is prepared for the winter is to make a quick checklist.

Items you should have in your vehicle for the winter season include an ice scraper, jumper cables, windshield wiper fluid (preferably one that can melt ice buildup), a blanket, phone charger, neon flag or ribbon, and a flashlight.

You should also check the tire tread on your vehicle for wear and to rotate them every time you take your vehicle in for an oil change. The easiest way to check your tire tread is to use the penny test by taking a penny and placing it in a groove of a tire. With the head of the penny facing towards you, place the penny (head facing down). If the entire head is visible in the groove, it is then time to replace the tire.

Lastly, with the weather being unpredictable for snowfall, give yourself extra time to your destination. Slower traffic is expected when snow plows/salt trucks are working on clearing the road.
