Smoke Shop Busted By Cops For Fake Cash, Cigarette Tax Stamps, And Marihuana Products Sold to Those Under 21

The Daily Grind South and Smoke Shop at 180 Main Street was raided by officers from the City of Cortland Police Department earlier this month after a months long investigation into the store.

Officers conducted a search warrant on the property and found fraudulent sheets of NYS Cigarette Tax Stamps and counterfeit US Currency in the store. Cortland Police say over 140 fraudulent Tax Stamps were recovered during the search.

The investigation also discovered the illegal sale of marihuana products to those who were under the age of 21 years old. Police confiscated several thousands of dollars and numerous illegal Marihuana products.

The investigation began back in November of last year, when the police department received several complaints of marihuana products being sold to those under 21 years old.

In total, three men were arrested after the investigation concluded. They were 33 year old Maher Kahtan Ahmed, 35 year old Jabar Katan Ahmed, and 39 year old Mohamed Katan M. Ahmed.

They face charges of 6 counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 1st, and Conspiracy in the 4th, both Felonies.

The men also face charges from the November investigation of Conspiracy in the 6th, Criminal Sale of Cannabis, Marihuana Products and Marihuana Sales Under 21, both Misdemeanors.

All were arraigned and later released in Cortland City Court, or released via appearance tickets to appear in court at a later date.
