New York Governor Kathy Hochul and the NY Department of Environmental Conservation warn smoke from the Canadian wildfires may be visible today (Friday), especially in areas of higher elevation in the state.
The DEC predicts the air quality for the Central New York area to reach 55 fine particles, which is considered moderate. Last week CNY experienced historic air quality levels that reached over 460 fine particles and created an orange haze.
“Levels are expected to be far below what we experienced last week, but I encourage all New Yorkers to remain vigilant. If you are in a vulnerable group, please monitor the latest information and take steps to protect yourself.” Governor Hochul said.
The DEC provides an Air Quality Index forecast for the entire state. This index may be found HERE.
