The Cortland County Department of Emergency Response and Communications says the county will host a SKYWARN Spotter Training class on Monday, June 3rd beginning at 6:30pm. The class will take place at the Cortland County Regional Training Center at 3557 Terrace Road in Cortland.

The class will have participants learn the structure, formation and hazards associated with different types of severe weather, information the National Weather Service uses when issuing warnings, how you can help the community and the NWS track severe weather, and how to prepare and stay safe in severe weather or flooding.

“Our goal is to train you how to accurately report severe weather to us, ranging from snowfall measurements, to severe weather (hail, wind, tornadoes, flooding).”

According to the National Weather Service.

There is no cost to participate in the class. Anyone with additional questions is asked to contact Mitchell via email at Mitchell.Gaines@Noaa.gov or calling 607-798-6620. To sign up for the class, click HERE.
