Six People Displaced After 2nd Alarm Fire Destroys Residence

Truxton Fire Department along with multiple fire departments from Cortland, Madison and Onondaga Counties battled a 2nd alarm fire at 6437 Morgan Hill Road in the Town of Truxton.

Around 2:30 Saturday afternoon (4/22) a call came in from a passerby of heavy smoke coming from the area of 6437 Morgan Hill Rd. A second alarm was immediately called for additional assistance to the scene.

As fire fighters arrived on scene of the residence heavy smoke and fire was coming from the second floor of the building. Several explosions were also heard, believed to be oxygen and propane tanks.

The family of the residence, 6 of them, were not at home during the fire. They are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.

After the initial fire was extinguished, State Fire began their investigation when the fire flared back up from hotspots inside. Additional manpower from departments were called again around 10:20 pm to extinguish the fire.

Assisting the Truxton Fire Department were Homer, Cortlandville, Fabius, Apulia, Tully, McGraw, and Preble Fire Departments. Smith Ambulance and the Cortland County Sheriff were also on scene to provide assistance.

All units were cleared around 12:15 am. No injuries were reported.
