Site Plan Extension Granted for Proposed Senior Housing Development – Developer Still Seeking Additional Funding

The City of Cortland Planning Commission has granted a one-year extension on the site plan approvals for a proposed affordable senior housing development on Cortland’s East Side. The project, located at 33 River Street, is still working on getting additional funding before work may commence.

Earlier this year, Governor Hochul announced the developer of the proposed project, the Cortland Housing Assistance Council, will receive $2 million dollars for the project from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Program.

The project would be only for those aged 62 years and older and are income eligible. The building would be 3 stories with 53 single bedroom apartments, each apartment would be given one parking space for a total of 53 parking spots.

Executive Director for the Cortland Housing Assistance Council, Shawna Grinnell, told the Planning Commission that their organization is once again applying for funding and needs the project’s approval to be extended through November 2025. The organization is looking to receive funding from the New York State Low-Income Housing Tax.

The proposed project has been working on funding since 2022.
