Matt Brooks: [00:00:00] Matt Brooks here on X101 Always Classic, and with me on the line well it’s SingTrece, performing at the Rose Hall this Friday. Doors open at 6:00 PM Music begins at 7. Now, unlike typical performances you might go to, this concert will also be recorded and used for SingTrece’s new live album now SingTrece, thank you for joining me today to talk about your upcoming performance.
SingTrece: Oh, thank you. I appreciate this. It is a great opportunity.
Matt Brooks: It’s, it’s unique ’cause we’ve had concerts in the past where people come and perform and those are, uh, well, I mean, you go, you listen to them perform, you go home. But this one’s more, unique because you’re also recording a live album.
With that into the mix, what can the audience expect this Friday?
SingTrece: Wow. A lot of energy. A lot of energy. Um, I want this recording to be, uh, very powerful for people when they walk through the door. I want immediately like them to know that the energy is shifting and we’re going to another level, and we’re no longer waiting for, um, somebody to give [00:01:00] us permission to do something that we’re born to do.
Matt Brooks: Yeah. No, that’s the thing. It’s for a performance like this, because you’re also recording it, you wanna have that energy in the audience and in the performance itself to really come through on the recording.
SingTrece: Yes, yes, absolutely. Um, so yeah, that’s my whole point in doing the live album. It was because I wanted to. I’ve always been told when they see me in person, it’s like, uh, wow, they feel this energy they never felt before. So I was trying to figure out how can I recreate that? And so this was my idea of doing it, like why not do it live and have the audience participate and, and be a part of something. You know?
Matt Brooks: That’s, I mean, that’s the easiest way to, to solve that issue. It’s like, Hey, how do you get that energy? Well, if you’re getting that energy live, well just put the microphone and, and hit record! Now, SingTrece, you’ve performed soul music across the globe. What made you decide to come to Cortland to record your first live album?
SingTrece: Um, honestly, um, one of the guys that’s in my band named John Keefner, um, [00:02:00] he told me about, um, Rose Hall.
And I went and met with him and he, he is a, a local around Cortland, um, school district. So he was like, Hey, why not, um, do it here. I could do it in house. Yeah. So that was really the reason behind it. It wasn’t like a let’s go here place. It was just so happened that he knew the people there, and when I got there, it was absolutely beautiful and I liked, um, Mark and Chris, the people that are gonna be working with me on this project and, uh, yeah.
Matt Brooks: It’s a right place, right time, sort of deal and absolutely. We, we appreciate you coming to the area. I, uh, uh, Rose Hall’s a beautiful venue and it’s a great place to record your first live album now. In, uh, in reports you, your voice has been described as milk and honey to the ears, and it’s led you to win several awards. What inspires you to be a musician?
SingTrece: Wow. I’ve always sang all my life. So, um, I think it was just in me, like I grew up in a time where music was always into everything, [00:03:00] commercials, you know, um, all, all aspects of my life. And it started with gospel. So when I got a little older, I decided to get into opera and then jazz and then blues and so forth and so forth, and it’s just like music has always been a part of my journey in my life.
Matt Brooks: No, it’s, it’s amazing. Like, I mean, music’s one of those things that just carries with you through your life and it’s great when you have an outlet such as performing live to, to really get it out there.
SingTrece: Absolutely. Absolutely. My motto is to change hearts one positive note at a time.
Matt Brooks: That’s inspiring. Now SingTrece, we are unfortunately running a bit out of time, but this is something I always like to ask every musician, uh, as they’re coming to perform in the area. Now, if you could have the entire audience memorize one of your songs before the concert, so at the concert they can sing along, they can groove to it, what song would you choose?
SingTrece: What song would I choose? Um, it will [00:04:00] be “Vibing Heavy” and that the chorus is so simple because all they have to do is just follow me, la la, la, la. Yeah.
Matt Brooks: No, no. It, it’s, I mean, it doesn’t have to be a hard answer. I mean, that is, I mean, that’s really easy to memorize, so, so “Vibing Heavy,” that’s, that’s the one that everyone needs to know before they enter those doors this Friday.
Now again, Rose Hall doors open at 6:00 PM Music begins at 7. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Help SingTrece record her new live album at Rose Hall. Again, thank you SingTrece for taking a few minutes out of your day to help talk about this upcoming concert.
SingTrece: Absolutely. Thank you.
Matt Brooks: No, thank you. And this has been another interview here on X101 Always Classic. I’m Matt Brooks.
