Single Vehicle Crash on Route 41 in Town of Scott Prompts Haz-Mat & DEC Response

Just after 3 Friday afternoon, Homer Fire was dispatched to a single vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 41 and Ripley Hill Road in the Town of Scott. Cortland County 9-1-1 reported a pickup truck had struck the guardrail.

Arriving on scene was Homer 562, who reported to dispatch that the pickup truck had struck the guardrail and went into an embankment alongside the road. No injuries were also reported after speaking with the driver.

However, the pickup truck was leaking diesel fuel into a small creek adjacent to the roadway. Cortland Haz-mat and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) were requested to the scene to help with cleanup. Route 41 was closed for several hours while crews cleaned up the fuel spill.

Homer Fire says their units cleared the scene around 6pm while DEC, State Police, and the Department of Transportation remained on scene. X101 News has reached out to State Police for additional information.
