A Siena College Research Poll released yesterday shows that 70% of New Yorkers are happy to live in the state, compared to 30% who wish they lived somewhere else.

Additionally in the poll, over 70% rated New York as either excellent or good in the availability of leisure activities. For affordability, New Yorkers say the state is no better than only fair, or poor at 67%. Retiring in the state was even lower for New Yorker’s, only 60% said they would retire in the state.

“Large majorities of New Yorkers say the quality of life in the Empire State is excellent or good, and that they are happy that they live here,” said Don Levy, SCRI’s Director. “But about 30% say they wish they lived elsewhere and 31% plan to leave New York when they retire.”

The poll was conducted between March 6th to March 9th, by random telephone calls to 406 New Yorker adults through landline and cell phones with 398 drawn from a proprietary online panel of New Yorkers. The overall results have a margin of error of +/- 3.9%.
