Sheriff’s Office Warning of Paving Scam – Victims Charged Abnormally High With Little Work Done
The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam happening in the county. The Sheriff’s Office says they have received numerous complaints of people who are posing as a legitimate paving business from out of town. These people have been making stops in areas within Cortland County offering an alleged discount for blacktop services for both homeowners and businesses.
However, the Sheriff’s Office says the company shows up, will do some work and then charge that homeowner or business an abnormally high amount for the services they provided. Residents and business owners are being reminded to be cautious of “deals or offers” that may seen suspicious or too good to be true.
Anyone who has been approached for paving or sealing by out of town subjects and you never called or requested their service of this type, the Sheriff’s Office says be cautious and contact the Cortland County 9-1-1 Center to report it at (607) 753-3311.
